This site remained empty for the first 50 years of Eumundi. Adjacent to the railway on the eastern side of the main street, it was not until the early 1940s that George Adams built an office here for his auctioneering: Adams' Auction Mart.
George was a well-established businessman in Eumundi by this time. He had arrived with his young family in 1912 when he bought the blacksmith and cartwright workshops. After serving as a farrier with the Light Horse Regiment in Egypt during the war, he returned to Eumundi and soon began selling cars as he was smart enough to know that the days of horse and carts were coming to an end. He moved his garage into the main street in 1938, where the bookshop is now at 87 Memorial Drive. All the while, since before the Great War, he had also worked as an auctioneer and estate agent.
In the 1950s, Adams sold his auctioneering business to the Boxsells of Kenilworth. This family business remained on site until the end of the 1980s.
The building was taken over by Eumundi Hardware & Produce in the 1990s.
In 2016, 88 Memorial Drive was reimagined and reopened as the Eumundi Emporium.
