The Eumundi Historical Society began meeting in 1975, with the aim of collecting, preserving and sharing the history of the town and the surrounding districts. By 1980 it began to look for a building that could serve as both an office and a museum, which they could move into Eumundi onto a piece of the old railway land which they had purchased. They found the two-storey cane-train-driver's barracks down the Maroochy River and bought it from the Moreton Central Sugar Mill.
However, it was not until 1983 that the building was relocated to Eumundi, with the separate stories moved and reassembled by crane.
The historical society became the Eumundi & District Historical Association (EHA) in 1985 and the museum finally opened and was a great success.
It was not long, however, that it became evident that the space was too small. So the EHA purchased the old church across the street and the museum moved in 1996. As the Original Eumundi Markets were expanding and were now owned by the EHA too, the pink building was soon repurposed to become the market offices, which they remain today.
